It’s weird to feel sad about an old man you never met passing away in his sleep at 87 and so I keep reminding myself not to make a big deal. But here I am, eating breakfast and playing (blasting) Northern Lights-Southern Cross in an attempt to mourn/celebrate Garth but also the final goodbye to The Band.
I don’t think I need to get into how or why these guys had the impact they did on me and I won’t be the only person writing something like this. When I first started playing with Harrison and Liam I had just finished reading Robbie’s autobiography (a copy that Max and I shared) and spending the dull hours of the early pandemic worshiping The Band. The first RTPS gigs we did together were so special to me because we intuitively spoke the same musical language that was rooted deep in The Band’s songs and groove. I had found my band of brothers - there was no doubt about it.
